About the Library Committee

Charge

Beginning in the Spring of 2026, faculty and students have an opportunity to be part of a reciprocal and on-going collaborative effort to understand, explore, and make recommendations on library spaces, services, and resources. The information below presents the charge and composition of the committee. The basic function of the committee is to bring together faculty liaisons and student representatives with their librarian counterparts, including:

  • Ongoing collaborative and/or exploratory work to improve library services and increase communication.
  • Giving and receiving input regarding the library’s collections, resources, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Bringing school and/or discipline specific items to the committee’s attention and reporting back to the school with information discussed at meetings.
  • Engaging with library staff to identify opportunities to increase library visibility and involvement.
  • Identifying any special initiatives appropriate for discipline specific subgroups.
  • Advising on strategies to better serve students.
  • Developing a reciprocal understanding of literacy trends and challenges.

Composition

Non-Faculty: All professional librarians at Molloy who not only serve as subject or program liaisons but also have areas of specialization within the library. The University Librarian will serve as Chair. In addition, one graduate and one undergraduate student will be appointed to serve.

  • School of Arts and Sciences: 4-5 faculty members
  • School of Education and Human Services: 2 faculty members
  • The Barbara H. Hagan School of Nursing and Health Sciences: 2-3 faculty members
  • School of Business: 1 -2 faculty members

Nominations Process

  • Each school utilizes their standard nomination and election processes to determine committee members.
  • Librarians: All librarians are considered permanent members of the committee.
  • Students: The University Librarian will coordinate with various entities on campus to identify student participants.
  • Non-faculty/Administration: Members of the Molloy community who have a significant stake in library services may volunteer to serve as committee members.

Expected Member Time Commitment

  • One two-hour meeting per semester (two per academic calendar year)
  • A two-year, in person commitment for faculty
  • A one-year, in person commitment for students

If anyone has any questions or is interested in becoming a future member, please contact Judy Drescher at jdrescher@molloy.edu.
