Faculty Professional Development Courses

Facilitated Courses through BOL

Our office provides professional development courses designed to help faculty to design quality hybrid and online courses for their students. Ranging from one to two weeks (and requiring approximately 12 - 14 hours per week), these facilitated courses are offered in the online asynchronous modality to maximize flexibility and convenience for the schedules of our faculty. To register, please visit the BOL LibCal calendar. Once registered, you will receive an email invitation to the Canvas course before it begins.

Learning for All (LfA)

LfA is a fully online 1-week faculty development course based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). UDL is a framework for learning designed to improve and optimize teaching methods and provide equal access for all students by reducing barriers. The goal of this course is to provide an understanding of UDL and how it can be incorporated into the design of web-enhanced, hybrid and online courses.

Reviewing Course Design with Quality Matters (RCDQM)

RCDQM, a 2-week online asynchronous course. Quality Matters (QM) is a continuous improvement model for assuring the quality of hybrid and online courses. This course includes an introduction to Quality Matters, a detailed review of the QM Standards, and guidance on how to apply the QM Rubric. Faculty and members of the Division Council are welcomed to register. Completion of this course is a pre-requisite for pursuing the Quality Online Course Design (QOCD) Badge.

Teach, Learn Course Design (TLC)

TLC is a fully online, 2-week faculty development course focusing on best practices of hybrid and online teaching and learning. This intense course will cover the hybrid/online mindset shift, framing and designing a hybrid/online course, active learning strategies, aligned assessments, and ongoing resources.

Self-Paced Courses

The following courses are monitored by the Instructional Design Team and offer participants an opportunity to learn at their own pace.

Accessibility 101

This course includes modules focusing on foundational accessibility principles and Universal Design for Learning, as well as other modules devoted to accessibility in platforms such as email, Canvas pages, Word documents, PowerPoint slides, etc. Completers receive a certificate and opportunity to pursue the Digital Accessibility for Educators (DAE) Badge.

Minimum Online Requirements and Expectations (MORE)

This course provides faculty with an overview of the Minimum Checklist for Online and Hybrid Courses, a document that all faculty who teach hybrid or fully online courses are expected to complete and submit with their course syllabi to their dean, chair or program director at the start of a term.
