Our office offers consultations with instructional designers, workshops on various topics related to course design and delivery and professional development courses. BOL provides professional development courses designed to help faculty to design quality hybrid and online courses for their students. These facilitated courses, ranging from 1 - 2 weeks and requiring about 12 - 14 hours per week, are offered online asynchronously to maximize flexibility and convenience for the schedules of our faculty. ACE is a fully online 1-week faculty development course focusing on best practices in developing accelerated courses. The course covers setting class expectations, active learning strategies, aligned assessments and ongoing resources.
LfA is a fully online 1-week faculty development course based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). UDL is a framework for learning designed to improve and optimize teaching methods and provide equal access for all students by reducing barriers. The goal of this course is to provide an understanding of UDL and how it can be incorporated into the design of web-enhanced, hybrid and online courses.
RCDQM, is a 2-week online professional development course introducing faculty to Quality Matters (QM), a continuous improvement model for assuring the quality of hybrid and online courses. This course includes an introduction to Quality Matters, a detailed review of the QM Standards, and guidance on how to apply the QM Rubric. Faculty and members of the Division Council are welcomed to register. Completion of this course is a pre-requisite for pursuing the Quality Online Course Design (QOCD) Badge.
TLC is a fully online, 2-week faculty development course focusing on best practices of hybrid and online teaching and learning. This intense course will cover the hybrid/online mindset shift, framing and designing a hybrid/online course, active learning strategies, aligned assessments, and ongoing resources.
The following courses are monitored by the Instructional Design Team and offer participants an opportunity to learn at their own pace. The LibCal registration for these courses can be found on the BOL Faculty Development calendar.
This course includes modules focusing on foundational accessibility principles and Universal Design for Learning, plus modules devoted to accessibility in platforms such as email, Canvas pages, Word documents, PowerPoint slides, etc. Completers receive a certificate, and faculty will qualify to pursue the Digital Accessibility for Educators (DAE) Badge.
This course provides faculty with an overview of the Minimum Checklist for Online and Hybrid Courses, a document that all faculty who teach hybrid or fully online courses are expected to complete and submit with their course syllabi to their dean, chair or program director at the start of a term.
