For those faculty who demonstrate excellence in their course design practices, our office provides digital badges through Credly. We welcome faculty who are interested in pursuing one or more of the below micro-credentials to contact our office at CourseDesign@molloy.edu.
The Quality Online Course Design (QOCD) Badge celebrates courses that meet the selected 29 standards of Molloy’s Quality Course Design Rubric, a subset of the Quality Matters Rubric (consisting of 44 standards).
Eligible courses must have been taught online (in the same modality as the design presented for badging) within the past year. The Office of Blended & Online Learning (BOL) will work directly with the academic schools to identify the courses offered in the online programs for participation.
The review team consists of a peer faculty member who has earned the QOCD Badge and a BOL instructional designer (a QM-certified Peer Reviewer). The review team will use the Quality Course Design Rubric to determine if the course design meets all standards. To request a copy of the rubric, contact us at CourseDesign@molloy.edu.
The length of the process depends on the course design and availability of the faculty member to meet with the ID. We recommend at least 2-3 months of regular meetings with an instructional designer before initiating a review.
The QOCD Badge will be issued via Credly and can be shared in your course, on our website, in marketing materials, and on social media to celebrate your success.
The QOCD Badge designation will be in effect for 3 years. Faculty will be contacted by BOL to reapply for a follow-up course review. Faculty will work with the Course ID to make course updates while maintaining the QOCD Badge designation.
To become a faculty peer reviewer, faculty will need to have earned a QOCD Badge for one of their own courses, having also completed TLC and RCDQM.
The Digital Accessibility for Educators (DAE) Badge celebrates Molloy faculty who demonstrate knowledge of digital accessibility and dedication to ensuring the accessibility of their own course materials.
According to the Web Accessibility Initiative, web (digital) accessibility means that websites, tools, and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them. All people should be able to perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with---and contribute to---digital content. The term encompasses all disabilities that affect access to digital platforms, including auditory, cognitive, neurological, physical, speech and visual.
Web accessibility also benefits people without disabilities, for example:
It is in our best interests to ensure that all of Molloy's digital content is fully accessible to as broad an audience as possible.
Molloy faculty who utilize Canvas as a component of their instruction is eligible to earn this badge, whether they teach primarily face-to-face, hybrid or fully online courses.
In order to earn the DAE Badge, Molloy faculty would:
Since one of the three criteria is focused on Canvas course content, the DAE badge is only available to Molloy faculty. However, administrators and staff are encouraged to take the Accessibility 101 course (which does result in a certificate of completion) and participate in BOL accessibility-focused workshops.
The typical time period to earn this badge would be 6 - 12 months, with the second criterion (workshop participation) contingent on workshop scheduling (BOL offers at least three accessibility-focused workshops per year---one workshop each semester plus the Summer Institute).
The DAE Badge will be issued via Credly and can be shared in your course, on our website, in marketing materials, and on social media to celebrate your success.
