Academic Writer Basics

• Login to your Academic Writer Account
• Click Add References
• There are 3 options: Search, Import, and Create

It is suggested that you start with Search, then use Import (if you found the item in a library database), and the last resort would be Create

Search

• Click Search tab
• Basic Search: Can search by Title
• Advanced Search: More Options
• Best to search by DOI
• Select Reference, Click Add to My References
• Success Message

Import

• Export RIS file from a database
• In the database, look for one of the following: Export, Save, Tools, Cite, or Export Citation
• Click on Export, Save, Tools, Cite, or Export Citation
• Select RIS file/format
• In Academic Writer, Click Import tab
• Upload RIS file: choose a file (most likely in your download folder)
• Choose RIS file origin: Select the database the RIS file came from
• Click Submit
• Import Processed Screen

​Create

• Click Create tab
• Select type of resource
• Enter as much information as possible
• Multiple authors need to be added one at a time
• Click Add to My References button

All references are saved to My References.

As you type your paper, you will have to add references to your paper. They will appear in the paper under Paper Reference List 

You can add references to your Paper Reference List in two ways. Add a reference from My References to your paper OR Add a new reference by searching PsycINFO, which will also be saved to My References
