ILLiad is a fully automated Interlibrary Loan system that allows borrowing between thousands of libraries around the world. Use ILLiad to request books or articles that are not available through the JET Library.

Creating an ILLiad Account

Below are basic instructions for the one-time required setup of a patron account as well as an overview of the system itself.

From the library homepage, select the Interlibrary Loan link under Quick Links. To create an account, you need to click First Time Users, which is under the Login button.

Please note:

  • The system will not accept personal email addresses - the email MUST end with either @lions.molloy.edu or @molloy.edu
  • The 14 digit ID number is the number on the back of your Molloy ID (this is no longer a required field)
  • Your Username can be anything you want! It is suggested that you make it the same as your Canvas username.
  • You can choose to receive notifications via phone or email! Your preferences can be set during registration.

Once you have successfully completed your registration, your account will have to be cleared by a member of the Interlibrary Loan department.

  • In order to be cleared, you must be a member of the Molloy community with a valid ID and have no other ILLiad accounts. You can make requests in the meantime, but they will not be processed until your account is cleared.
  • Accounts are typically cleared within one business day and you will receive an email once it is.

REQUESTING MATERIALS

A request can happen one of two ways:

You may be searching in JETfind with "Expand search beyond the JET Library" checked and come across an Item that says "Check for Access Options" or you could also have entered a DOI or PMID into the Citation Linker

This will give you the link to request the item through Interlibrary Loan.

Clicking Request via Interlibrary Loan will prompt you to log in to your account. Once you do, there will be a pre-populated request form...

Or you might be searching our catalog and simply not find what you need. If this happens, you can log in to ILLiad and start a new request:

Whichever way you start the request, it is important to fill in as much information as possible. The more information we have, the quicker we will be able to process your request and find a library that can lend the item.

This Video from UWF describes Interlibrary Loan Requests. Start at 1:18.

Additional Things to Consider

Before initiating the request, think about the following:

  • ILL may not the solution if you require the material right away - Although we may be able to obtain an article within hours, it can take days, or even weeks, to get a book or hard to find article. So ask yourself, is it worth the wait? There may be numerous articles similar in nature that are available immediately in full text. Not sure? Ask a Librarian!
  • Are you sure we do not own or already have full text access to the material? Check for books. Check for articles (journal title, article title, volume, issue and page number(s) required). We will not place an ILL request for an item that is available at the JET Library.
  • You'll need a valid Molloy I.D. card that does not have any outstanding library fees.

Other things to know:

  • There are some things we will not be able to get: Many libraries will NOT lend brand new materials, A/V media, photographs, archival material, microfilm, primary documents, dissertations, rare books, entire issues of journals, or materials from Special Collections. This does not mean you should not place a request for any of these kinds of items, just be aware that we may not be able to find a library willing to lend it.
  • Loan Period: This is determined by the lending library, so please pay careful attention to the due date once you receive the materials.
  • Renewals: Must be requested through ILLiad in advance of the material's due date and is at the discretion of the lending library.
  • Notification: When the requested materials are received at the library, unless otherwise indicated in the Preferred Notification Method of the ILLiad Patron Account, users will be contacted via their Molloy email address. Alternatively, you can check online to determine the status of any item from your ILLiad Patron account.
  • Copyright Restrictions: The library cannot process more than five articles from a single title per calendar year.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How long can I keep the book I borrowed through ILL? Each lending library sets their own loan period. Your due date will be on the label placed on your ILL book and can also be viewed in ILLiad. Most libraries allow renewals, but renewals must be made in ILLiad before the item’s due date.
  • How long will it take to get my item? While some articles can be received electronically within hours, books and harder to find items can take days, or even weeks to be received. We will always do our best to get items in a timely fashion, but ILL may not be a good option if you need your item immediately.
  • Where can I pick up my ILL book? The circulation desk of the JET library where a staff member will check the book out to you.
  • Where can I return my ILL book? You can return your book to a staff member at the circulation desk where you picked it up. ILL books must be given to a staff member and NOT put in the book drop outside the library.
  • How long do I have to pick up my ILL book? We will hold any ILL books that come in for one month, or until the lending library’s due date, whichever comes first. Books not picked up in that time frame, will be returned to the lender.
  • Is there a cost? There is no cost to patrons. (The JET Library will pay up to $20 per item.)
  • What do I do if I forgot my password? Passwords can be reset at the ILLiad login page. Please note: if you are directed to ILLiad while searching for an item in JETfind, this screen will not give you the reset password option, you must go to the login page. If you cannot remember your Username, please call the ILL department of the JET Library at 516-323-2914.
